This year my Thanksgiving outfit involves this oversized sweater dress.
Once cold weather really settles in and the holidays are on the horizon, I start looking for all the snuggly, oversized, sweater-based things. This oversized sweater dress from H&M was a perfect find– just look at that color! The prettiest soft camel, side slits, a cowl neck, and ribbed detailing make this dress a fall style star. I sized up one to get a super slouchy look; my goal was to appear as if I was wearing a slightly more tailored version of a sweater blanket.
This sweater dress struck me as a killer Thanksgiving piece because all that roominess means you get to indulge in all the food without feeling constricted. (Aka the top goal for any Turkey Day ‘fit.) I added a pair of statement snakeskin boots to break up that sea of camel-y beige, and a hat to provide an additional element of contrast.
The goal was for this outfit to be neutral and chic, but not boring. Comfortable and Thanksgiving-friendly, but not totally shape-consuming. A heel on the boot helps lengthen things out, balancing all that sweater fabric. (Your girl is always looking for ways to appear longer + taller!)
I love how this oversized sweater dress will translate nicely through the winter. It’s 20 degrees outside? Slip on a pair of tights and a taller boot, and then toss an oversized cardigan on top. Boom! Cozy, chic, and super on trend. Experiencing one of those above-freezing winter days? A sneaker could work in place of a boot, and throw on a leather jacket instead of something heavier on top.
What are you wearing this Thanksgiving? Have you sorted it yet? The weather in KC this time of year is fickle; some Thanksgivings are frigid and others are in the 60s. If it’s the latter, I’ll likely need to shelve this sweater dress for Christmas. If it’s the former, let the snuggly times roll!
