Channeling my inner 80s dad in this color block pastel button-up.
Nothing says “Easter is nigh” quite like pastels. These colors are typically my thing, as I tend to reach for more saturated hues, but this color block pastel button-up was too fun to pass up. It reminded me of every dad in the 80s and early 90s, cruising around the Easter egg hunt in their Sperry’s.
I wanted to create an outfit that alluded to the retro element of the shirt’s origin while also feeling modern. I half-tucked it into a pair of Levi’s 501s and slipped into a pair of white loafers. The pointed toe helped the shoe feel more 2000s than 1980s– although those style loafers are in, too– and round Ray-Ban sunglasses finished the look.
C’mon, how breezy and cool is this outfit? All the slouch here keeps the vibe relaxed and not Uptight Country Club. Busted knees help, too. A flat loafer is the right combo of comfort and polish that goes anywhere and never feels out of step with the dress code.
I am going to be remixing this color block pastel button-up, for sure. An oversized fit means this shirt will work well as a bathing suit cover-up or worn open over a bodysuit and cutoff shorts.
Speaking of remixing… Want to dress this look up? Swap the loafer out for a white heel. Toss the 501s and opt for a straight leg without the distressing. Want to dress this look down? Sneakers > loafers are your play.
