What is Frozen C?
Frozen C safely harnesses the power of cold air (technical term: medical-grade cryogen or cryo) to improve the overall quality of the skin, soothe active acne, and calm rosacea. The super-chilled cryo (cooled to a brisk -78°C) triggers the body’s natural responses to extreme cold, which then produce good-for-your-skin therapeutic benefits. This means Frozen C:
- Reduces redness and inflammation
- Reduces the appearance of large pores
- Smooths the skin’s tone and texture (which means major youthful glow mode!)
- Increases blood flow and oxygen to the skin
Is it safe?
Never fear, Frozen C is absolutely safe. Before the cryo treatment starts, your aesthetician will apply a special gel to your skin to make sure it stays protected from the intense cold. The skin’s temperature is monitored constantly during the facial to ensure it stays within a safe range. Lastly, there is an auto-stop feature on the Frozen C device that will automatically shut off if your skin gets out of that safe range. All you have to do is lay back and chill.
What happens during a Frozen C facial?
You start with a clean, makeup-free face. (Mascara + a little eye makeup is okay, but you don’t want any foundation or concealer on the skin.) Your aesthetician will apply a custom serum matched to your skin’s exact needs, followed by the skin protectant.
Now things get chilly! The cryo treatment is passed over the skin in regions (cheeks, forehead, mouth + chin, and nose) multiple rounds. Multiple passes = boosted results!
After cryo, your skin gets an oxy mist treatment. The oxy mist is packed with aminos and vitamins to calm and restore your freshly-cooled face. Then your aesthetician applies a moisturizer, SPF, and lip treatment (all customized to your skin’s type + needs) to get you out the door in about 45 minutes.
Does Frozen C hurt?
I found the treatment to be really relaxing– I actually can’t wait to get one during the super hot KC summers. Nothing like a little cryo in August to cool me down and boost my skin’s appearance.
I definitely felt the cold, but it didn’t bother me for the most part. The only area where it got a little uncomfortable was on the second or third forehead pass. That felt a little like an ice cream headache. However, that sensation quickly dissipated once the cryo moved onto another region of my face. I didn’t feel any discomfort whatsoever after the treatment was over– just really refreshed!
I was a little pink-cheeked for about 20 minutes post-facial and my skin felt cool to the touch for about an hour. My pals who were also at the Frozen C event couldn’t believe how glowy my skin was. By the time I got home that night, my skin had returned to normal. I enjoyed a little JLO-style glow for a few days after!
What else can Frozen C do?
Not only is Frozen C an awesome standalone treatment, it also enhances other treatments on the AesthetiCare service menu. It calms any treatment area (for example: after injections, a Halo treatment, or microneedling) and kills bacteria. The extreme cold soothes inflammation, which minimizes side effects, pain, and overall downtime. Cryo closes exposed pores to seal in the benefits of other treatments, like lasers and Hydrafacials.
I plan on adding a Frozen C facial to one of my heat-based treatments, like BBL or Halo. With Halo, your skin is numb during the procedure, but you can feel some pretty intense heat once that numbness wears off. It can last up to a few hours after the treatment (for me it was about 90 minutes), but a post-Halo Frozen C would really help and provide its own skin benefits.
How much does Frozen C cost?
Very comparable to a Hydrfacial treatment, Frozen C runs $199 at AesthetiCare. If you book, make sure you give ’em my name and you’ll get $100 of your first treatment!
