Cherry Red Blazer + Black Croc Stiletto Boots.

Cherry Red Blazer + Black Croc Stiletto Boots.

Cherry red is fall’s hottest color– here’s how to wear it.

Fall is here! How has the new season been treating you? I love being able to dip back into my sweater and blazer collection, starting with this cherry red blazer. Well. more accurately: blazer dress.

Red is seriously having a moment as part of the fall fashion lineup; from boots to sweaters, it’s everywhere. Yes, we normally reach for this jewel tone during the holiday season (and we still will), but in the meantime, I’m looking for ways to incorporate it into my autumnal outfits.

I picked a semi-sheer black turtleneck as the base, tucked into a pair of 90s-style straight leg jeans. I wanted a boot with some sass to match that cherry red energy, so out came these black stiletto croc boots. And yes, your eyes aren’t deceiving you: I am tucking a non-skinny pair of denim into a tall boot. A trend I had been wanting to attempt for a while, but lacked the means to pull it off successfully.

The key to this trend is that slouch, right? Cool, effortless, a little 80s. You want to avoid looking frumpy, which is hard with anything slouch-leaning. To strike the right balance, you’ve got to find the right pair of slimmer-cut straight denim and a tall boot with a wider shaft. This gives that denim you’re hiding room to go, and also provides some visual balance so the slouchy part isn’t too overpowering. Fine line trend walking, that’s what we do around here.

The end result feels quite cool, right? The longline blazer doubles as a lightweight jacket to buffer against those chilly fall gusts and the boots add some warmth, as well. Who says fashion can’t be functional? It’s versatile, too. This look could do everything from happy hour with your work pals to date night with your partner.

I love diving into my closet and surfacing with pieces I’ve had forever that are now suddenly part of a trend. It’s an exercise in shopping your own stuff and also makes for some fun, “Hm, I wonder if this will work?” moments.
