Guys, gals, and nonbinary pals– the sun has returned to Kansas City! It’s also brought some early spring weather; a reward for surviving that 2-week subzero nonsense we had in February. We were in the 60s all last week, which was a perfect time to slip into a lightweight sweater and expose the ankles in a pair of cropped, wide-leg jeans.
Ah yes, we’re still not back in skinny jeans. I refuse to give them up completely as I feel they definitely have their spot in the Official Denim Lineup, but I have been vibing more with slouchier styles with straight and wide legs. They’re just so roomy and comfortable! Plus they’re a nice change from super-fitted denim. Today it’s a pair from Zara (no longer available, but get the same look here and here) with ankle boots and a striped sweater.
That mocha in the sweater was a perfect excuse to grab a matching hat off the wall. I’m always saying I don’t break into my hat collection enough, so here I took the chance to rectify that. (This one is almost exact and comes in several colors.) Gold jewelry, round sunnies, and a front sweater tuck and the outfit was complete.
That rough hem! The off-the-shoulder sweater styling! Coachella-esque hat! Glam-but-dainty jewelry! It all works here.
The resulting outfit is kinda boho, definitely casual, and hints at spring without going over the top. Lightweight sweaters are my jam all through spring and summer; they provide the perfect layer to keep you warm through those spring breezes and cooler summer nights when you’re patio drinking with pals.
